William R. Hamil, 80, of Rochester, died Monday, June 10, 2013 at Meadow Lakes Senior Living. William R. Hamil was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 5, 1933.He graduated from Fordson High School in Dearborn, MI in 1950, and from the University of Michigan with a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1955, and a Masters Degree in 1956.He married Gitta Hilda Gosziniak in Grosse Pte. Woods, MI on June 15, 1956.They moved to Buffalo, NY, where he worked for E.I. DuPont Inc., served on active duty in the US Navy Reserves, and then worked for the Linde Div. of Union Carbide.They moved to Rochester in 1962 when he joined IBM.He was assigned to IBM in Boeblingen, Germany from 1970-1972, returning to Rochester where he worked for IBM until 1976.He then worked for Aid Association for Lutherans, North Star Foods in St. Charles, Winona State University, and was the owner of Computer Analyst Services until he retired due to disability in 1989. William was an Assistant Scoutmaster in Boy Scout Troop 21 for several years, and received a Hiawatha District Scouter of the Year Award in 1989.For the last several years he attended Community Bible Study.He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Rochester. William is survived by his wife, Gitta of Rochester; his children, Bob Hamil of Conway, MI, Steve Hamil of Calumet, MI, Lee Alan Hamil of Wabasha, MN, and Laura Lee Hamil of Rochester; one brother, Brenton M. Hamil of Georgia; and two sisters, Mary Parker of Alexandria, VA and Margaret Hamil of Reston, VA.He was preceded in death by his parents. A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2904 20th Street SE, with the Reverend Scott Schilbe officiating.Burial will be held in Oakwood Cemetery.A visitation will be held from 5:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and also one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.Memorials are appreciated to the Game Haven Council of Boy Scouts of America, 5015 Simpson Rd SE, Rochester, MN55904.
