William Miller

William F. Miller, age 82, of Rochester, MN, passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2024 at St. Mary's hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Bill was born to Herbert and Evelyn (Dunham) Miller in Los Angeles, California where he lived until the family moved to Rochester, Minnesota. William graduated from John Marshall High School in 1960 and married JoAnn Westra in 1962. He served in the Army at Fort Manmouth in New Jersey from 1966-1968. He worked as a mechanic before starting his career with the Rochester Fire Department in 1970; during which time he became a motor operator, taking great pride in his service to the community and in the vehicles he helped to maintain and drive. He retired in 1999.

He was a generous and kind man who showed his faith through action. He loved to spend time with family and friends, frequently traveling to attend events and activities. He cared for his neighbors and volunteered in the community, helping others when they needed it. He was instrumental in the formation and founding of the Rochester Minnesota Senior Softball (RMSS) League in 2003 where he continued to be a major contributor to its until his passing. Bill enjoyed fishing, softball, playing games, listening to music, good conversation, endless "tinkering" on projects and most of all driving the countryside with no particular place to go. He is already missed and will remain in our hearts forever.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents and JoAnn (Westra) Miller.

He is survived by his son, Jeffrey Miller (Christine) of St. Paul; his grandchildren, Kaitlin Miller and Josef Miller of St. Paul; his brother, Richard Miller of Ridge Manor, Florida; and many loved nieces, nephew, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday April 25, 2024 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery Columbarium in Rochester.
