William (Bill) F. Turner, 86, of Rochester, MN, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Saint Marys Hospital from complications of Parkinsons Disease. Bill Turner was born September 29, 1929 to George and Lillian (Dorman) Turner in Mount Sterling, IL.Bill graduated from Mount Sterling High School where he was active in basketball, track, band, and theater.He graduated from Culver Stockton College in Canton, MO.He married Shirley (Miller) Turner on February 21, 1953.Bill and Shirley lived in Japan while Bill was in the Air Force. After his military service he worked for United Airlines, retiring in 1989 as a Captain in their Boeing 737 fleet, which he described as the work horse of the fleet. They lived in Mount Prospect, Illinois until 2011, when they moved to Rochester Minnesota to be closer to family.Bill was proud to be Papa to his grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, camping in Door County, square dancing, ham radio, and cross country cycling. In 1977, he road to the top of Pikes Peak in Colorado. In 1986, he and Shirley toured Denmark visiting relatives on a tandem bicycle. Bill is survived by his daughter, Kim (Jim) Andrews of Wayzata, MN, and their family, Kevin Andrews and his children, Haley and Lucas; Jennifer (Jerod) Weinman and their sons Gustavus and Soren; and Carolyn (John) Hansen and their daughter, Kennedy.Also surviving is their son, David (Ann) Turner of Rochester and their family, Alexander Turner (engaged to Lindsay Seibel), Laura (Brett) Deibert and their daughter, Brynn; and Kelly (Tyler) Maxwell.He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sister. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016 at Bethel Lutheran Church. Visitation will take place from 5:00 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes.
