A memorial service for William and Margaret McGinnis will be at 11:00am on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at the Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Rochester, MN.Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.Burial of their cremated remains will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Northfield, MN. Margaret McGinnis was born on August 4, 1917 in St. Paul, MN and passed away on February 9, 2010 in Mesa, AZ.She grew up in St. Paul in her early years and moved to Northfield, MN for high school and where she graduated from Carleton College.William McGinnis was born on May 6, 1917 in Chetek, WI and passed away on September 25, 2014 in Mesa, AZ.He graduated from Chetek High School and attended the University of Minnesota.The two were married on June 14, 1941, in Northfield and made their home in Minneapolis. William worked for Midwest Radio and Television starting in 1941 and retired in 1968 as the Studio Supervising Engineer at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis.In the early 1970's, he taught television engineering for a few years at the Thunder Bay Ontario Technical Community College. After retiring, the couple moved to Casa Grande, AZ and enjoyed traveling the entire country in their travel trailer. William was proud of his many years in the early years of television broadcasting.He particularly remembered participating in a Telstar television broadcast in the early 1960's which was the first television live broadcast simultaneously in multiple countries and also originated live from multiple countries. Survivors include their son, William McGinnis of Rochester, MN. Memorials can be directed to the American Cancer Society.
