Wayne Daniel Richardson was born on February 3, 1940, in Salisbury, MD. His parents were Oren Edwin Richardson, Sr. and Dorothy Ann Parsons Richardson. He died on November 6, 2023, from dementia at Cottagewood Senior Communities, Rochester, MN.
His parents, brother, Oren Edwin Richardson, Jr. and son, Joseph Leonard Brom predeceased him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Alice Christmas Richardson, son Edward Daniel Richardson (Elaine Shu-Kyin Law) and grandsons, Rowan Sodacreek Hui-De Law and Asher Parsons Zhi-Wei Law and daughter Heather Noël Richardson (Samuel Phillip Hazen) and grandsons, Linus Edward Hazen and Silas Joseph Hazen, his brother Frank Sheppard (Constance) Richardson and nephews, C. Bradley Richardson and Trevor F. Richardson and great-niece Stella, and his cousins, Patricia Ann Parsons, Michael Parsons and Frank Lane Brittingham.
He graduated from Wicomico High School in 1958. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 1967 with a major in physics and mathematics and a computer science minor. He worked on the Apollo Mission project in 1966-1967. He began employment with IBM as a software engineer in 1969 and retired in 2005. He received the GSD Achievement Award for his work in the development of System/38. He was always an early adopter, being one of the first people in Rochester to have an Apple II +. He got his license to fly a private plane in Cavalier, ND in 1973 and enjoyed flying the family all over the United States and parts of Canada. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada, the Caribbean, France, the British Isles, as well as 5 trips to Ireland. Most of all, he enjoyed the time he spent with his wife, sons and daughter, and grandchildren. He was known for his good sense of humor and his ability to fix anything and solve any and all problems. He was a founding member of Community Presbyterian Church in Rochester, MN.
A Memorial Service will be held at Community Presbyterian Church 3705 Fairway Place NW Rochester, MN 55901 on December 27, 2023 at 11:00 am, with luncheon to follow.
