Wayne Hemmer

Wayne D. Hemmer, 87 of Rochester, MN died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, June 5, 2020. Wayne Dean Hemmer was born May 4, 1933 to Neil and Mildred (Poggenpohl) Hemmer in Austin, MN. He graduated from Austin High School in 1952. He was enlisted in the United States Navy from 1952-1956. On August 23, 1954 he married Joanne McAlister in Austin, MN. The couple moved to Rochester and he started working for IBM, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, wood working, drawing, making model airplanes as well as sharing many Navy stories. He had a collection of die cast and match box cars. Wayne was a caring gentle man and genuinely enjoyed spending all the time he could with his family. Wayne is survived by his wife, Joanne of Rochester, MN; two sons, Brad (Julie) Hemmer of Rochester, MN and Rick (Jackie) Hemmer of Rochester, MN; one daughter, Susan (Dennis) Mueske of Rochester, MN; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one sister, Lois (Dale) Lewis of Austin, MN as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW Rochester, MN 55901. Reverend Dr. Paul K. McAlister will be officiating the service. A visitation will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2020 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Sunday. Burial will take place at Grandview Cemetery in Austin, MN. Safety guidelines and masks will be required for all services. Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes is honored to be serving the Hemmer family.
