Virginia Lenore Hinzmann

Virginia Lenore Hinzmann, 93, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2016, at Shorewood Senior Campus in Rochester, Minnesota. She was born November 23, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, to John and Beulah Owens. After graduating from Denby High School, she married James Malzahn of Dearborn, Michigan, where they had three children: Thomas (Cathy) Malzahn of Post Falls, Idaho; Susan (Drew) Lindstrom of Tucson, Arizona; and Judith (William) Young of Rochester, Minnesota. Following Jamess death in 1968, Virginia met and married Gordon Hinzmann, a fellow church member, in 1973 and remained married until his death in 2008. Also honoring her life are her cherished six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who loved her as Gigi. Virginia was active in the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) for over 50 years and spent more than three decades volunteering in the hospital setting. She continued mentoring Mayo Clinic medical students in their Sage Program. She also dearly loved her friends and activities at Shorewood where she was actively involved and even began a support group for vision-impaired residents. A celebration of Virginias life will be held at Shorewood Senior Campus beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016.
