Virginia Gayle Burt, 81, of Rochester, MN died peacefully on July 27, 2016 at Moore Elderly Care in Rochester, MN where she received loving care during her lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Virginia Gayle Drews was born October 16, 1934 to Leo E. and Alma Grace Drews in Rochester, MN. She attended school in a one room school house north of Rochester thru eighth grade. She graduated from Rochester High School in 1952. After graduation she worked for Mayo Clinic for two years. On October 25, 1952 she married Robert W. Burt. They lived their entire married life in Rochester. Virginia worked on and off at the Silver Lake grocery store for seventeen years, at Sears as a sales clerk for ten years and for the Rochester school district as a cook at Elton Hills Elementary School for fourteen years. Mr. Burt passed away in 2003. Virginia was a member of Homestead United Methodist Church. Virginia enjoyed spending time with her immediate and extended family and 3 very special friends. She also enjoyed reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards with senior groups, and embroidery. Virginia was also an avid cat lover and enjoyed her pet cats throughout her life. She is survived by four daughters, Gayle Newcomb, Patty Burt, Mary Brogan (Brian) and Roberta Verdoorn (Kurt), all of Rochester; eight sons, Jeffrey (Susan) of Blooming Prairie, Stephen (Jill) of Winona, Michael of Rochester, Mark of Kasson, Jason (Carmel) of Byron, Jarret (Christine) of Rochester, Jacob (Jennifer) of Hayfield and Jesse of Rochester; twenty-eight grandchildren and thirty-one great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Robert, Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Phyllis and Vera, one daughter Barbara, one son, Wayne, one granddaughter, Paige, and two daughters-in-law, Marcia and Laurie. The memorial service for Virginia Burt will be held on Saturday, July 30, at 3 pm at Ranfranz Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place N.W., Rochester, with visitation 2 hours prior from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Homestead United Methodist Church in Rochester.
