Virginia C. Scholbrock, 72, of Rochester passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 25, 2016, surrounded by her loving family at The Mayo Clinic, St. Marys Campus. Virginia was born February 7, 1944 in Bagley, MN to Alvin and Vida (Hanson) Strand. She graduated from Gonvick High School and went on to obtain her Bachelors degree in Home Economics from the University of Northern Iowa and her Masters in Clothing and Textiles from UW-Stout. On June 20, 1973, Virginia married Allan Scholbrock in Dubuque, IA. Virginia began her teaching career at Dubuque Senior High School and then went on to become an educator/ instructor for 28 years at the Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College, serving the last 10 years as the Dean of the Business and Marketing Department. While at WITC, Virginia started the Fashion Merchandising Program. Virginia was a member of PEO sorority, past member of the Chamber of Commerce in Superior, WI. Virginia enjoyed cooking, refinishing furniture and traveling the world with her husband, Al. Some of her favorite trips were taken to England, Norway and Germany. Virginia loved gardening, tending to her vegetables and 500 hostas! Virginia felt most peaceful at their home they built for retirement on Island Lake, MN and also enjoyed spending winters in Tucson, AZ. She was grounded, rational, feisty, a planner, and the ultimate energizer bunny. Above all, Virginia was the rock of the family, a trusting, loyal and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Allan; son, Grant (Johnny) Scholbrock of Portland, OR; daughter, Kara (Mike) Gyarmaty of Rochester; grandsons, Alex and Will Gyarmaty and sisters, Pat (Clyde) Hendrickson of Parkers Prairie, MN and Barb (John) Brooks of Gonvick, MN. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Vida. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM Friday, September 30, 2016 and one hour prior to the service all at the funeral home.
