ROCHESTER, MINN:Violet R. Phelps, 81, died Friday, August 3, 2012 at Maple Manor Nursing Home. Violet Rose Quimby was born January 30, 1931 to Lloyd and Floss (Hair) Quimby in Byron, MN. She graduated from Byron High School in 1949. Violet married Ronald J. Phelps on September 2, 1950 in Rochester, MN. She worked at Mayo Clinic as a Medical Secretary from 1954-1988 and retired after thiry-four years of service. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing with her husband Ronald at various dance halls in the Rochester area. Violet enjoyed all outdoor activities, including fishing, water skiing, camping and sitting by the camp fire. In her later years, she enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her children and grand children. Violet is survived by her husband Ronald, Rochester, MN; her two daughters, Julie (Mark) McCoy, Rochester, MN and Pam (Gary) Lakner, Oronoco, MN; three grandchildren, Chelsey, Brandon, and Emma; and two great grandchildren, Olivia and Sylvia; and one sister, Irene Reinke, Rochester, MN. Violet was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Evelyn and Arlene; and two brothers, David and Bill. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at Byron United Methodist Church with the Reverend Sharon Nelson officiating.A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens.at 1:30 p.m.on Wednesday.
