ROCHESTER:Violet C. Alrick, 94, of Rochester, MN died Friday, August 23, 2013 at Samaritan Bethany. Violet Constance Alrick was born December 30, 1918 at the family farm of her parents, John and Bertha (Brekke) Trygstad.As one of 10 children she attended school until the age of 12 completing the 8th grade.She then went onto work for Dr. and Mrs. Habein until her marriage to Elvin Alrick on August 23, 1939.They raised 5 children on the Alrick farm in rural Kasson.Gardening with strawberries and State Fair winning vegetables kept her busy along with teaching Sunday school, active in her Circle and of course quilting.At the age of 49 Violet got her G.E.D. and then went to Nurses training and graduated at the top of her class and achieved the highest score on her Minnesota State Boards for a Licensed Practical Nurse,Violet became a OBGYN nurse at Olmsted Community Hospital retiring in 1982.Violet and Elvin enjoyed visiting and being an active part of their children and grandchildrens lives.Their 50th Anniversary was a highlight of their lives as they spent a weeks vacation at Evergreen Lodge on Women Lake with all their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.Elvin passed away in 1992 and Violet moved to Real Life Cooperative in 1993 where she made many new friends.Violet became a resident of Samaritan Bethany in 2010 where she lived until her passing. Violet will be lovingly remembered by her five children, Jean (Dick) Hunter of Rochester, Dorothy (Al) Nelson of Cambridge, MN, Robert of Longmont, CO, David (Debbie) of Walker, MN and Gary (Sheila) of Rochester; 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; 6 brothers, 3 sisters and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Alrick. There will be a funeral service at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church (70640 260th Avenue Hayfield) on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.Visitation will be held from 4:00 7:00 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes on Monday, August 26, 2013 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.Interment will take place at West St. Olaf Lutheran Church Cemetery.
