Vernon Anthony Exe, 76, of Byron, MN passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at Samaritan Bethany in Rochester, MN after a courageously fought battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. Vernon was born March 11, 1942 in Rock Dell, MN to Hilman and Clara (Holt) Exe. He attended Waseca Agriculture School and began work as a backhoe operator for Viker and Sorensen. Vernon married Linda Zimmerman on December 3, 1966 in Salem Township. Vernon operated backhoe for Sanitary HIMEC for 20 years and transitioned to crane operating engineer for 18 years with HIMEC. He also farmed in Olmsted County. Vernon was a member of the local 49er's Operating Engineers. Throughout his life, Vernon enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing dice, cutting wood, driving and working on stock cars. He loved spending time with his family and babysitting grandchildren. He was self taught and jack of all trades, he built 3 homes, he sewed his own shirts and could dance on roller skates. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda; children, Pete (Brenda) Exe and Edee (Chad) Guetter; four grandchildren, Tasha (Darren) Flicek, Trina Exe, Corrine and Samantha Guetter; great grandson, Fletcher Flicek; siblings, Audrey Carlson, DeWayne (Marie) Exe, Marylin (Francis) Carlson, Doris Mehling and Carol Carlson, and sisters-in-law, Donna Exe and LaDonna Exe. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank, Lawrence, Jerold and Ron. A Celebration of Vernon's Life will be held 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Ranfranz and Vine Remembrance and Reception Center, 5482 Royal Place NW, Rochester. It was Vernon's wishes that his body be donated to the Mayo Clinic for research. The family would like to thank Season's Hospice, especially Jonelle for the care and compassion that Vernon received.
