Verna M. Zierke

Verna M. Zierke, 98, passed away on September 10, 2015 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.She was born on March 23, 1917 in Knierim, Iowa to August and Tillie (Zinnel) Zeckser. Verna attended rural Knierim/Manson, Iowa Schools and she married Virgil Zierke on October 2, 1937 in Sac City, Iowa. Verna was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manson, Iowa and she worked as a nurses aid at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home for twenty years. She was an avid quilter and seamstress and loved being around people.She moved to Rochester in 2008. Survivors include two daughters, Janet (Donly) Okrzynski of Rochester, Minnesota and Joan (Gilbert) Peterson of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a sister, Garnita Johnson of Ft. Dodge, Iowa and a brother, Kenny (Karen) Zeckser of Dubuque, Iowa and a sister-in-law, Marian Zierke of Somers, Iowa.Verna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother and one sister. The family will have a memorial service in Knierim, Iowa at a later date.
