Verna Lydia Berg

Rochester-Verna L. Berg, 89, of Rochester, MN, died Friday, July 9, 2010 at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth.Verna Lydia Engelrup was born August 6, 1920 in Ralph Saskatchewan, Canada to Henry and Ida Engelrup. In 1925 the family moved to Oronoco, MN. She attended Rochester High School graduating in 1938. On October 2, 1940 she married Raymond A. Berg and they resided in Rochester all their married life.Verna was active in Peace United Church of Christ, the Alter Committee and church circles. Verna enjoyed gardening and was a vendor at Rochester Downtown Farmers Market for many years. She and Raymond also enjoyed taking cruises, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.Survivors include her husband Raymond of 69 years, sons, James Berg (Mary Riley) of Hugo, MN, Duane Berg (Susan Bell) of Rochester, MN, and Richard Berg (Judy Crawford) of Rochester, MN;9 grandchildren, Kathy Jolly, Sue Palmer, Steve Berg, Jeff Berg, Todd Berg, Jana Mullenbach, Wendy Berg, Brian Berg, and Karen Berg; and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son; sisters, Florence, Ethel and Alice; and a brother, Bernard.Verna's funeral will be on Thursday, July 15th, 2010 11:00 A.M. at Peace United Church of Christ with Rev. Paul Bauch officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Prairie Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M.- 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Samaritan Bethany Foundations or Peace United Church of Christ.The family wishes to thank the staff at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth for their wonderful care provided.
