Ulrich Thiemann of Rochester, Minnesota, age 50, died on Friday, June 28, 2019. Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5455 50th Avenue NW in Rochester with Father Thomas Loomis presiding. Visitation is on Friday, July 5 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, and also one hour prior to the mass. Burial is at Oakwood East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Minnesota chapter of the Parkinson's Foundation in honor of Ulrich's father, Johannes, and Anne's mother, Inge. Born December 30, 1968 in Bottrop, Germany to Johannes and Wiltrud (Hessbrügge) Thiemann. He attended college in Darmstadt, where he earned a B.S. in Computer Science and a M.S. in Mathematics. On December 7, 1996, he married his high school sweetheart, Anne-Ursula Winkel, in Bottrop. In 1999, Ulrich and Anne moved to Rochester, Minnesota, where they had their three beautiful children, Anabel (John Marshall 2018), Sarah (John Marshall 2019), and Moritz Thiemann, a sophomore at John Marshall High School. Ulrich was a senior software engineer for JES3 z/OS core development, where he was awarded nineteen patents. An avid volleyball player, his favorite after sport drink was whole milk, which his volleyball friends brought en masse to his 40th birthday party, and enjoyed playing Clash of Clans during period breaks of his son's hockey games. His favorite snacks were Snickers and Twix candy bars and BBQ potato chips. He loved his family very much and was very fond of cruising around in his BMW, complete with Clash of Clans rear window sticker. Preceded in death by his father and mother, Ulrich is survived by his wife; Anne, children; Anabel, Sarah, and Moritz, step-mother; Elke Thiemann, his brothers; Johannes and Richard Thiemann, and many friends.
