Her parents were Cleber and Jessie (Morck) Kaushagen. She had three older brothers, 1 older sister and one younger sister. She was baptized at Old Westbrook Lutheran near Westbrook, MN. The pastor baptized her still speaking in the Norwegian language. When Twylah was 2 years old, the family moved to Geneva, MN until they moved to Albert Lea, MN her 8th grade year. Twylah enjoyed singing in choirs, sports, being in the girl scouts, and friends and family growing up. She was confirmed at First Lutheran in Albert Lea and graduated in 1948 from Albert Lea High School. Twylah continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City, IA. She met her husband, Lester Larson, singing in the choir at Waldorf. They both graduated in 1950 and were married at First Lutheran in Albert Lea, MN on July 23, 1950. It was the beginning of a loving, caring marriage that lasted for 54 ½ years, and they were blessed with 7 children, 18 grandchildren, and 35 great-grandchildren and a lifetime of love and memoires for her family. They moved throughout their marriage to a few communities where Lester served as an ELCA pastor: Moland and West Concord, MN and Dubuque, Elk Horn, Urbandale, and Grimes, IA. Twylah enjoyed entertaining guests in the various parsonages. She served well as the pastor's spouse and in leading Bible studies. Every parsonage home they lived in was improved upon by Twylah. She kept a clean, organized home and even though she had 7 kids to get ready, we never were late! She was an excellent seamstress for the benefit of her 5 daughters and enjoyed Norwegian rosemaling painting. She made countless delicious meals for her large family her whole life. For every Thanksgiving and Christmas meal she would make lefse for her family. So many of these traditions live on in her family. In retirement, Twylah and Lester enjoyed 10 winters in Alamo, TX. They enjoyed camping with the Wally Byam Airstream club, getting together with friends and attending church at Victoria Palms where Lester served as pastor for many winters. Twylah has resided in Byron, MN for the last 21 years where she has enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was an active member of Christ Lutheran. Twylah turned 90 years old 2 weeks ago and she enjoyed the day with family, attending church and sharing a meal together. Family was everything to Twylah. She loved, prayed for and tried to help her family her whole life through.
