In Loving Memory of Thomas Lowell Williams
With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Thomas Lowell Williams (Tom) of Rochester, Minnesota, who left this world on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at the age of 90. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend, Tom passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.
Tom's legacy lives on through his beloved wife of 40 years, Marion, and his children: Tom (Jan), Diane (Darren), Bobby (Lisa), Mark (Tandra), Greg (Rachael), Brian (Margo), and Renee (Mike). He was the proud grandfather of Joe, Mark, Neil, Ashley, Sean, Trey, Trace, Connor, Kaelin, Kelsey, Cade, Angela, Blake, Trevor, Luca, and Gianna, and the adoring great-grandfather of Sully, Beckett, and Grady. Tom was preceded in death by his brother Billy, his brother Don, his sister Rosalie, and his first wife Jean. He will also be deeply missed by his lifelong friends, his golf companions, and the book club he and Marion treasured together.
Born in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, Tom's passion for problem-solving emerged early as he maintained the electrical systems on his family's farm. He pursued this passion at Clarkson University School of Engineering, later earning an MBA from George Washington University. A distinguished engineer, Tom dedicated 30 years to General Electric, where he served as Vice President of Lighting Systems, followed by eight years as CEO of Norplex/Oak. His wisdom extended beyond his profession-he authored a book on networking and job interviewing, a guiding resource that continues to inspire his grandchildren.
Beyond his remarkable career, Tom found joy in golf, travel, reading, and gathering with loved ones. He was a man of deep loyalty to his family and a fierce supporter of the Duke Men's Basketball Team. He was renowned for his signature ham, BBQ ribs, and the beloved New Year's Eve tradition of serving "pigs in a blanket" before the ball dropped. Tom had an infectious laugh, a radiant smile, and a heart full of song. He loved fiercely, gave generously, and enriched the lives of all who knew him.
Though he has left our sight, he will never leave our hearts. His kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will remain a guiding light for his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider honoring Tom's memory with a donation to Homes for Veterans.
