Thomas Glasser Frankel With the most profound pain we have ever felt, we announce the death of our Tommy on Friday, October 21st, 2016. Tom Frankel was born on February 12th, 1990. He did most things on his own terms, guided by a strong and sacred sensitivity to freedom. He could sense when others were suffering, and he drew upon his beautiful gifts to offer others freedom and peace. Tom was a soul gifted with music, words, intelligence, and humor. He had a hearty belly laugh and could bring laughter to anyone he encountered. In the same way, he could find just the music or the words to express the humanity at the core of any situation. He had a gorgeous voice that brought much life to this world. Tom drew upon his Judaism, asking questions and seeking the fulfillment that more questions bring. He worked with his rabbis and served as a spiritual teacher to us all in the process. We continue to search with and learn from Tom. Tom wrestled with depression. Forever guided by his drive for freedom, he bravely faced more pain than we can know. We will be grateful that he has no more pain, and he has found freedom that should never have to be discovered in this way. Tom loved his son, Zeke, more than anyone or anything in this world. He and Zeke were working on refashioning an old school bus into a camper for future adventures together. Tom spent his last Sabbath at peace. He shared with us his belief that when we die, our souls rest with God. No matter what. At his core, Tom was a beautiful, honest, and carefree young man. He wanted to make a difference in the world, and, in donating his organs and tissues to others, he will. He will remain a part of those who love him, including his father and mother, Rob Frankel and Amalie Frankel; his siblings, Andrew and Ann Frankel and their daughter Sarah, and Elizabeth Frankel; his grandparents, Stanford and Susan Sholem and Bernard and Barbara Frankel; his beautiful son Zeke and Zekes mother Brittany Splittstoesser; his uncles, aunts, and cousins; and many others whose lives he touched. Toms funeral service will be at 1:30 on Tuesday, October 25th at Bnai Israel Synagogue, 150 7th Ave. SW Rochester, MN, with Rabbi Michelle Werner officiating. His burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an educational trust fund for Toms son, Ezekiel (Zeke) Frankel.
