Surjit Bassi

Surjit Kaur Bassi, 78, of Rochester MN passed away peacefully and comfortably on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Mayo Clinic with her grandson at her bedside.

Surjit was born March 20, 1945, in Manak Tabra, India to Sarwan Singh and Jagir Kaur. She lived a life full of passion and adventure working and helping manage small businesses across sectors both at home in India and in the US. For years, she was with her son and family in California delighting the local communities with her kindness and enthusiasm to ensure all had a great day.

After her diagnosis of multiple myeloma in 2017, Surjit moved to Rochester, MN to work with her brilliant and compassionate oncology team led by Dr. Vincent Rajkumar to control and get ahead of her disease. She fought a brave and courageous 7- year battle with a persistent and bright single dimpled smile.

Surjit loved to spend her time in Rochester with family, friends and loved ones whether in person at get togethers, in passing on her daily walks or virtually with her cup of chai to visit with those who live both near and far. She was a woman of many talents but most memorably, she loved to share her passion for cooking through delicious, irreplaceable meals like her green parathas and curry. She is remembered by her loved ones as a warm and kind presence.

She is survived by her husband, Mohinder; children Darshi Bassi, Kiran Buttar, son-in-law Navtej Buttar, Parmjit Bassi, and daughter-in-law Raj Bassi and; and five grandchildren Suyog Buttar, Jasleen Bassi, Aniket Dhariwal, Davekaran Buttar and Adesh Bassi.

The Shabad Kirtan will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Langar (Lunch) will be served at noon.
