Steven Egner

Steven Howard Egner, 73, took his final breath on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at Carver Ridge Senior Living in Carver, MN, in the presence of his loving wife.

Steve was born on September 29, 1950, in Waterloo, IA, to Thorton and Thelma Egner. He graduated from Mayo High School in Rochester, Minnesota in 1968.

On June 8th, 1974 at United Lutheran Church, in Red Wing, MN, he married Kay Klair. Together they made their home for a few short years in Stewartville, MN, before moving to Rochester, MN where they resided for 38 years.

Steve worked as a homebuilder for Fagerlind Construction, Egner Viker Construction, and Kathryn Hexum Company-Rick. From 1994-2019 he worked at the Rochester Athletic Club as the Director of Maintenance, until his retirement.

Steve left his imprint on this world. He was somebody that everybody knew and loved. He valued people and he valued the close friendships he made along the way. He would do anything, for any one, whether it was a woodworking project in his shop, a helpful task, or lending a listening ear. He was a giver, never expecting anything in return.

He was a family man who lived for his family. He loved and appreciated his wife and together they built a solid foundation for a family. He was proud of his children. He enjoyed watching them build their own families and showed them what it was to be a great husband and father. His grandchildren were his everything. They were the light in his life as was he in theirs. They will hold tight to the memories they shared with 'Gramps'; Friday night pizza nights, breakfast chats, building in the shop, bonfires and the beloved Gator rides.

To all that knew him, Steve's legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those he leaves behind. His memory lives on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Kay; son, Jesse (Tina) and their children Kyler, Keely and Trey; son, Josh (Denise) and their children Hayden, Johanna, and Emmett; daughter, Jennie (Jeff) and their daughters, Madelyn, Ashlyn and Kinley; great grandson, Lukas (Madelyn and Isaiah); and three sisters, Annette Anthony, Barbara Egner, and Wendy Chapman (Bill).

He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, brother and brother-in-law.

A Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 3 - 5 PM at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home (5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN 55901).
