Stanley Jerome Lewin, 74, died on March 13, 2018. He was born on June 13, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Rose Zechella and Stanley Jerome Lewin, Sr. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati, and his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Miami in Ohio. (Experimental psychology, that is. He wanted everyone to be sure they knew he was NOT a clinician). There, he met his wife, Mollie. After years of friendship blossomed into love, they were eventually married in 1972. Together, they moved to Springfield, Illinois where their son, Ben, was born. In 1979, they moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he taught at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi until he retired in 2010. Their daughter Jennie was born in Corpus Christi, where Stan and Mollie raised their family. After retirement, they moved from the beaches of Corpus Christi to the frozen tundra of Rochester, MN to be closer to their daughter. I know what you must be thinking, wasn't that backwards? The thing is, it wasn't. He moved because he cared deeply for his family, which was always his number one priority. Stan will be remembered by many for his gentle soul and corny sense of humor. He even convinced someone that he participated in the Olympic games as a distance swimmer. While his humor will never be forgotten, the love he shared with his students, friends and family was ultimately his greatest gift to the world. He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosella Zechella and his father, Stanley Jerome Lewin, Sr, and mother-in-law, Rosella Shumaker Hollingsworth. He is survived by his wife, Mollie Shumaker Lewin, his children Ben (Kristina) Lewin and Jennie Lewin (Ben Romberg), his granddaughter, Maisy Lewin, and sister-in-law Nancy Pallan (Tom). His family wishes to thank all those who assisted in his care, especially Lexie Biederman, who supported him during the last several months and moments of his life. A graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Friday, March 16th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund at B'nai Israel Synagogue of Rochester, MN or to a charity of your choice.
