Shirley Jean Rossi (January 29, 1924 February 20, 2016) Rochester, MN - Shirley Rossi died peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at River Bend Memory Care in Rochester. Shirley was born in Pine Island, January 29, 1924, to Floyd and (Edith) Helen Baumgartner. She graduated from Pine Island High School and from Minnesota School of Business. She worked in Admissions at Miller Hospital in Saint Paul and married Robert (Bob) Rossi on September 13, 1947. They moved to Rochester soon after where she assisted in launching the Rossi Farm Dairy. She and Bob enjoyed square-dancing at the Isaac Walton Cabin and working on their dearly-loved farmhouse just north of Rochester. Shirley genuinely loved others. She had a wonderful smile and would always meet a challenge with a positive attitude.She was non-judgmental and looked for the good in people and in doing so brought out the best in others.Family and friends were most important to her and while she was a hard-working mother and wife, she also did whatever she could to help others. She was a long time member of Christ United Methodist Church and active in many groups there including Church Circle, InBetweeners, multiple committees, and hosted Marketplace Vacation Bible School with her husband at their home. She was also active in P.E.O., Methodist Hospitals (Pink Ladies) Auxiliary, welcoming newcomers to the area, Parkinsons Support and Kiwanis. She was on the rural School Board for District 1331 for many years while her children attended. She enjoyed family gatherings, reading, camping, traveling, sewing, gardening, and watching the Twins and the Vikings. She is survived by her children Jean (Galen) of River Falls, WI, Jill (Kerry) of Austin, TX, Robert B. (Suzanne) of Grand Junction, CO, Katherine (Bill) of Utica, MN, Douglas (Kim) of Gig Harbor, WA, and Susan of Saint Paul, MN; 18 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Robert and Donald, and her husband. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, at Christ United Methodist Church, 400 5th Ave. SW. in Rochester.
