Shirley J Cowie

Shirley Jean Cowie passed away on May 18th, 2016 at Samaritan Bethany Home on 8th.Born on August 1, 1929 to Walter J. Paulson and Pearl (Kimball) Paulson in Park Rapids, MN. Shirley grew up in Menahga, MN until her high school years when the family moved to Fargo, ND.She married Anthony George Cowie in Fargo, ND.They had two daughters and later divorced. Shirley moved to Rochester in 1957 with her mother and two daughters.She managed the Hollywood Bar for many years and the VFW Club.Shirley retired from the VFW Club at the age of 77.She was called ma by many of her friends and customers.Shirley loved to dance, play cards and socialize with her many friends.Her children and grandchildren are the most important people in her life. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Jean Clements; her five grandchildren, Stacey Seavy (Stuart Andrist), Christa (Scott) Morris, Shelby Bruggenthies (Paul Burnett), Sherry (Neil) Fast, Mark(Jenni) Bertschinger; and 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.She has one brother, Larry (Kay) Paulson of Minneapolis, MN and one sister, Gail Paulson of Phoenix, AZ. She was preceded in death by her loving partner of 30 years, Joe Pettey and her daughter, Georgia Bertschinger; and one sister and one brother. There will be a memorial service Friday, May 20, 2016 at 4:00 p.m.at Samaritan Bethany Home on 8th.Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
