Shirley Anderson-Frey

January 27, 1933 — April 22, 2025

Shirley was born in Decorah, Iowa to Lorentz and Selma Svehaug on January 27, 1933. She attended Beaver Creek grade school and graduated from Caledonia High School. She died on April 22, 2025 at St. Marys Hospital following a short illness.

In 1952 she married Carlton Vesterse. They had three daughters and later divorced. In 1984 she married Robert R. Anderson and he later passed away. She then married Robert J. Frey in 2007.

Shirley worked at Marigold Foods for 34 years before retiring in 1995. In 2018 Bob and Shirley moved to Madonna Towers and they thoroughly enjoyed living there. Family, including her loving extended family, meant everything to her.

Survivors include her husband Robert J. Frey, daughters Lynette Lively (Eric Morrison), Penny (William) Harrison, and Caryn (Alan) Pettey. Shirley had two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; granddaughter Nicole Miller (Ryan) and their three sons Samuel, Elliot, and Calvin, grandson Kyle Pettey (Rebecca) and their three children Axel, Harlyn, and Reagan. Shirley also has one sister, Marilyn Forbush and many nieces and nephews.

Also surviving are Bob's children Laurie J. Frey, Carol (Chuck) Blumers, Tina Miller (Mark Ingebretson), Mary (Joel) Bartlett; and Robert M. (Laurie A.) Frey; and all of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother Leland Svehaug, and son-in-law Dean Lively.

The family wishes to thank St. Marys Hospital for the wonderful care she received while in the hospital and the dedicated and caring staff at Madonna Towers.

Per Shirley's wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no funeral or celebration.
