Samuel Alexander May passed away on Friday, June 10, 2011. Sam was born on June 7, 1993.He attended Kasson-Mantorville Elementary School, John Adams Middle School, and John Marshall High School. While at John Marshall, he was active in speech, school newspaper, and theatre.He was captain of the speech team in 2010-2011.Sam was a voracious reader and an avid writer.He was a Post Bulletin teen columnist in 2009-2010 and attended journalism camp in the summer of 2010 at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. Sam loved lighting and sound for theatrical productions.He could often be found in Ilstrup Auditorium at John Marshall High School where he would run the lighting and sound systems for plays, assemblies, and concerts. Sam earned his honors diploma from John Marshall High School and had been selected as a commencement speaker.He had been accepted to the honors program at the University of Kansas where he was planning to study journalism at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications. He had attained San Kyu (Brown #3) belt certification from the International Ryu-TeAssociation. Sam is survived by sister Liz of Los Angeles, California, sister Stephanie of Rochester, father Henry of Rochester, mother Dawn of Mantorville, grandparents Virgil and Marie Dempewolf of Spring Valley, Minnesota, and grandmother Helen May of Lander, Wyoming. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes' Chapel.A visitation will be Wednesday, June 15, 2011 from 3:00 7:00 p.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John Marshall Fund for Enhancement of Fine Arts.
