Sally J. Vandermus, 86, died on December 15, 2024, at Cottagewood in Rochester, MN while her 2 daughters kept vigil and surrounded her with ongoing and loving support. Born in Berlin, WI on April 9, 1938, as an only child to Clarence and Anna Erdman. She had a great love of Mayo's remarkable care after surviving a brain tumor at the age of 10 and returning to St. Mary's School of Practical Nursing, graduating class of 1957 following graduation from Berlin High School in 1956. She moved to Green Bay meeting her true soulmate, John C. Vandermus, marrying on April 4th, 1959. Sally worked as an LPN in the hospital, then a nursing home, a dental clinic and morticians office.
After John retired, they relocated to Lake City, MN where they were both involved with the Chamber of Commerce, Sportsman and Garden Club. After 10 years they moved into a new townhouse in Rochester. Sally joined the Mayo Clinic Volunteer Program and was a desk attendant in the Gonda-Eisenberg corridor. She enjoyed decorating with RGFC at Mayowood several years for the Christmas Tours. She volunteered with Christmas Anonymous in the Coat Department and Donation Center. Sally loved preparing for Christmas and would knit 100's of lap robes which were all wrapped for Christmas and donated to Madonna Towers over many years. Each grandchild received an afghan and the greatgrands a scarf.
Having season tickets for years to Packer games allowed Sally and John many road trips to Green Bay and to visit family and friends. After John died in 2016, Sally moved to Madonna Towers in 2018 and loved her balcony view of the city. She made new friends, yet never forgot her Johnny.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, husband John, and son-in-law Karl Hunnicutt.
