Ruth Batzel

Ruth Ann (Exe) Batzel, 72, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2022 at her home while surrounded by family. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December, 2021 and fought valiantly throughout her diagnosis. Ruth was born on November 10, 1949 in Hayfield, MN and graduated from Hayfield High School. On May 12, 1973, she married Richard John Batzel at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hayfield, MN. They made their home in Rochester, had two sons, and were members of Bethel Lutheran Church. For forty-seven years, Ruth worked at Mayo Clinic until her retirement in 2014. In her free time, Ruth loved hanging out with her sisters and family, fishing with her sons, spending time with her grandkids, and going on trips to Leech Lake. Ruth will be dearly missed. She is survived by her two sons Jason (Gretchen) of Kasson and Dustin (Krista) of Rochester; four grandchildren Ashley, Jacob, Hayden, and Sylvia; three sisters Joan (Larry) Lulf, Judy (Roger) Tews, Carol Howard, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and A. Margaret Exe and her husband Richard Batzel. Funeral service will be held on Monday, November 7. Visitation begins at 9am with the service following at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
