KASSON, MINN: Roy John Smith, 87, passed away, Friday, May 11, 2012 at Maple Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 27, 1925 in Buffalo Lake, MN to John and Rosemary (Bradford) Smith. On March 6, 1946, Roy married Bertha Holzerland. After graduating from high school, Roy went on to work as a printer for Whitings, which became Johnson's Printing in Rochester. Roy was also a veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corps, proudly serving his country as a staff sergeant during WWII . He was part of the 422th Bombardment Squadron, which completed 28 missions in combat. Upon retiring from Johnson's Printing, Roy moved to Florida in 1986. Roy is survived by his children, JoAnne Griffith, Charlene (Kenneth) Vath, and Justin (Cindy) Smith; 8 grandchildren, Peter, Chad, Jessica, Randy, Karlyn, Kayla, Kortney, and Kally; 10 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Nicholas, Michael, Madeline, Zachary, Logan, Carlee, Tessa, Elsa, Brooklyn, and by a close friend, Pauline Falvey. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife, Bertha. A memorial service will be held at a later date and inurnment will be at the Florida National Cemetery.
