Rose Marie Koenig, 82, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Golden Living West Care and Rehabilitation Center. Rose was born January 28, 1935 in Pine Island, MN to Swiss immigrants, Robert and Gertrude (Heimberg) Klossner. The family moved to Kasson and Rose graduated from Kasson High School in 1952. She then attended Winona State University, earning a degree in education. On June 23, 1956, Rose married Charles Koenig at the Kasson Methodist Church. Rose worked in education for 27 years, working as a Science Lab Assistant and Secretary of Guidance at Mayo High School and taking attendance for night school at Mayo and John Marshall. After retiring, Rose and Charles spent 20 years wintering in a senior park in Scottsdale, AZ. They also enjoyed summers and free time for many years at their lake home in Shell Lake, WI. Rose enjoyed playing bingo, cards, going to casinos, reading, doing puzzles, canning, cooking and traveling. Rose loved socializing and making friends from several states. She was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Charles; sons, Steven (Deanna) Koenig of Rochester, Jerry Koenig of Eyota; daughter, Carol Koenig of Rochester; grandchildren, Adam (Arian) Koenig, Tera (Jesse) Kellner, Tasha Koenig; great-grandchildren, Tessa, Jenna, and Becca Kellner; brother, Ernie (Judy) Klossner; sisters, Alice Klossner and Dorothy (Alvin) Gross; sister-in-law Florence (Jim) Girod; brothers-in-law, John Foley, Lowell Torgerson and Herman Stahl and several nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John and sisters, Margaret Foley, Lena Torgerson and Amanda Stahl. A special thank you to Lisa Klossner for her compassionate care of mom. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 559 20th St. SW, Rochester, MN with Pastor Charles Leonard officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at Grandview Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donors choice.
