Ronald Lenberg Ress, 83, of Rochester, MN died on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness with Parkinsons and heart disease. He was born October 29, 1931 in Hibbing, MN to William and Lillian (Lenberg) Ress.He spent his early years in Keewatin, MN and graduated from Deer River High School in 1949.He got his degree from the University of Minnesota in 1953 with a BBA in accounting.Upon graduating, he entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany from 1953 1955.On August 18, 1956 he married Mary Parker of Minneapolis, MN. In 1960 he got his CPA certificate and in 1962 he began his 35 year career at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.In 1975 he received a fellowship award from the Bush Foundation and attended Harvard University.He was dedicated to his community of Rochester and served on numerous charity boards and committees including the Rochester Utility Board, Rochester Art Center, American Cancer Society, University Club, Mayo Volunteer Services, First Presbyterian Church, The Poverello Foundation among others.In 1997 he received the Rochester Mayors Medal of Honor for his long history of community service. He enjoyed his cabin, fishing, reading, traveling and completing the daily crossword puzzle but his wife and large family was his first love.He is survived by his spouse of 59 years, Mary and five children, Ronald (Chisako) of Rochester, David (fiance Denise) of Rochester, Cynthia (Rusty) McLagan of Saint Paul, Thomas (Lisa) of Byron and Sarah Hughes (David Link) of Rochester; eleven grandchildren, Corey and Tyler (Kiana) Ress, Paul and Grace McLagan, Andrew, Kaitlyn and Ronald Ress, Emily (Josh) Gammell, Samantha Schutz, Matthew Hughes and Aaron Ress; brother, William (Marge) Ress of Minneapolis and sister, Janet (Clint) Hof of De Smet, SD.He is preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately following the service. Visitation will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes on Monday, July 27, 2015. Inurnment will take place at Oakwood Cemetery with military Honors provided American Legion Post 92.
