Rollie Ness of Rochester, MN died at home on April 24, 2016, after a lengthy battle with end stage COPD. Rollie was born May 8th, 1950 in Kenmare, ND to Ardine and Vivian (Ryerson) Ness.He grew up on the family farm in the Tolley - Mohall area.He graduated from Mohall High School and NDSU Bottineau Branch of Forestry.He farmed most of his life with his dad and his brother, Roger. Rollie also owned a bar and hotel in Mohall with his brother and a friend,worked at Cenex of Minot and DS Manufacturing in Pine Island, MN. Rollie was a very outgoing, social guy and he never met a person he didnt call friend.He had a special place in his heart for people who farmed, had North Dakota ties, or were Democrats. He was also active for many years with Mohall mens and womens softball, both umping and coaching. In July of 1986, Rollie received the gift of life, a kidney, from his sister, Jan.During one of his many hospitalizations in Rochester, Rollie met his wife, Lori.They were married in Red Wing, MN on November 7th, 1987.Rollie always considered the 30 years after his transplant to be bonus years. He was able to see both of kids graduate from college and walk his daughter, Lindsay, down the aisle at her wedding. Rollie is survived by his wife, Lori, daughter and son-in-law, Lindsay and Derrick Macken of Rochester and son, Mitch, Minneapolis.Brother Roger (Shelley) Ness of Kenmare, ND, sisters Jan (Steve) Schlaht of Moorhead, Linda of Mohall, ND and Joanne (Wayne) Stanley of Minot, ND.Parents-in-law, John and Doris Kohrs of Red Wing, MN, brother-in-law, Tom Kohrs of Red Wing and sister-in-law, Kris (Scott) Swenson of Rosemount.He also survived bymany nieces,nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by twin daughters, Katie and Megan, his parents and his infant nephew, Ben Swenson. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Mayo Hospice, Resurrection Lutheran Church of Rochester or the Mohall Ambulance Fund. A special thank you to the Mayo palliative care and hospice team for their great care and friendship. A funeral service will be held 11:00AM Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 4520 19th Ave. NW, Rochester. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00PM Friday April 29, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester and one hour prior tothe service at the church. Pastor Jon Bitter will be officiating with interment at Oakwood East Cemetery.
