Roger William Pritchard

Roger W. Pritchard, 65, of Pine Island, died Monday, September 10, 2012 at the VA Hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Roger William Pritchard was born December 16, 1946 in Ft. Dodge, IA to Jack and Elizabeth (Holloway) Pritchard of Rockwell City, IA.He attended St. Francis of Assissi Catholic school in Rockwell City until the family moved to Osage, IA in 1957.Roger graduated from Osage High School in 1965.He enlisted in the US Army at the age of 18 on September 13, 1965 at Des Moines, IA.Basic Training was at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.He graduated from NCO school at Ft. Jackson, SC.He was a veteran of Vietnam serving from March 1, 1968 to October 6, 1968. Upon discharge from the Army he worked for Benike Construction until his retirement in 2002.Roger and Karen Joy Monty were married in Grand Meadow, MN on June 24, 1978.They celebrated 34 years together. Roger is survived by his wife, Karen of Pine Island; his children, Darla Kay (Kelin) Whipple of Tempe, AZ and Mitchell Monty (Maren) Pritchard of Pine Island, MN; 2 granddaughters, Teagen and Daryn of Tempe, AZ.He is also survived by his sister, Patricia (Vernon) Trent of Waterloo, IA; his brother, Larry (Karen) Pritchard of Cedar Falls, IA; his uncle, Arthur (Dorothy) Holloway of Ames, IA; four nieces, Karen (Steve) Schoonover of Washburn, IA, Debra (Les Adams) Milton of Washburn, IA, Stacy (Bill) McGough of Hugo, MN, and Michele (Jim) Van Ee of Waterloo, IA; and his nephew, Jacque (Beth) Pritchard of Buckingham, IA.Roger was preceded in death by his son, Darin, Jon; his parents; his maternal grandparents, William and Lucie Holloway; and paternal grandparents, John and Agnes Pritchard. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes Chapel with Father Tom Loomis officiating.A visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.Burial will be held in Grandview Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #92.
