Roger D'Arcy Remington, 87, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Castle Ridge Care Center in Eden Prairie, MN. Roger was born October 2, 1931 in Rochester, MN to Cecil and Palma (Olson) Remington. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1949. After graduation, Roger enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his country in Libya during the Korean War. After returning home from Libya, Roger began his career with the Rochester Fire Department. In 1961, Roger married Mary Goodenough. Longtime residents of Rochester, Roger and Mary moved full time to Reads Landing when Roger retired as a Captain from the Rochester Fire Department in 1983. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing and going antiquing. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion and the Isaac Walton League. Roger served as a past commander of the Wabasha American Legion, was on the Wabasha Cemetery board for years and volunteered at the United Methodist Church in Wabasha. Roger and Mary also wintered in Mexico Beach, Florida for 25 years. Roger was bright, kind, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was supportive and generous with his time. He was a very fine man. Roger is survived by his sons, Gary (Nancy) Goodenough of New Orleans, Dan (Lynn) Goodenough of Edina and Michael (Doreen) Remington of Minnetonka; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Bruce Selle of Rochester and brother, David Neumann of Maryland. Roger was preceded in death by his wife, Mary and daughter, Cheryll. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester with Pastor Carla Were officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Inurnment will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Military honors will be rendered by Rochester American Legion Post #92 and funeral honors by The Rochester Fire Department. Memorial contributions may be made to The Ronald McDonald House in memory of Roger.
