Rochester- A Funeral Service for Roger L. Nelson, 76, who died at Arbor Terrace on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 will be held 11:00A.M. Friday, February 24th 2012at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church with Rev. Karna Hagen officiating.Burial will be in Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Rural Kenyon, MN. with Military Honors.Visitation at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes will be from 5:00-8:00P.M. Thursday and then at the Church on Friday from 10:00A.M.until the time of service. Roger L. Nelson was born November 28, 1935 to Henry and Helen Nelson in Wanamingo Township on the family farm. He graduated from Wanamingo High School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force servingas a Medic at the close of the Korean War. He married Henrietta A. Maly in Wahoo, Nebraska, July 27, 1957.In 1987, he and his wife moved to Rochester from Wanamingo, MN.Roger worked for Farmland Industries as a Sales Feed and Animal Health Specialist for South East Minnesota. He will be fondly remembered by his clients for arranging beef tours in the U.S. and Canada. Roger and his wife were foster parents for 25years with hundreds of children passing through their home.Roger was a member of the Zumbrota V.F.W., a member of the Wanamingo Lions Club and enjoyed serving as Tail Twister. He was a member of the Wanamingo volunteer Fire Department and even spent time serving as the Wanamingo town cop. Roger enjoyed being a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Roger retired from Farmland Industries in 2007. Roger is survived by his children, Scott (Sandy) Nelson of Mazeppa, MN, Cynthia (Darryl) Flom of Dennison, MN, Michael Nelson ofRochester, MN, Laurel (Tim) Schacht of Rochester, MN and Amy (Daren)Walk of Rochester, MN; grandchildren, Cole, Taylor, Sam, Cody, Brittany, Maly, Jamie, Rosie, Cory, Charlese and Maddox and his foster children; sisters, Gladys Ullevig of Apple Valley, MN, and Evelyn (Lloyd) Kunde of Kenyon; and sister-in-law, Peggy Nelson of Kenyon, MN.He was preceded in death by his wife; Henrietta, sisters, Grace Nelson and Stella Berg; brother, Harris Nelson; and brother-in-laws, Alvin Berg and Robert Ullevig.
