Roger O. Haugen, 74, of Rochester, passed away peacefully, on January 20, 2017 at his home. Roger was born January 30, 1942 in Faribault to Olaf and Hazel (Ramstad) Haugen. Roger grew up in Kenyon and was a 1960 graduate of Kenyon High School. After high school he went on to receive his BS from Mankato State College, Masters from the University of Northern Colorado and his Educational Specialist degree from the University of Minnesota. On December 29, 1972, he married Judy Albright in Mankato. Roger taught school in Elmore, MN before coming to Rochester to teach in 1967. He taught at Kellogg Middle School and after retiring, taught in the Catholic school system in Rochester. Roger also worked as a supervisor for the Olmsted Rec. Center where he drove the Zamboni. He loved spending time at the family cabin fishing and pontooning. Roger enjoyed golfing, running marathons, playing cards, the Minnesota Wild and especially rooting on the Twins. He embraced his Norwegian heritage, had a quirky sense of humor and was a patient, generous and humble man. Roger led by example, not only as a mentor to children but to other teachers as well. Above all, Roger loved and adored his family, especially his 4 grandchildren. Roger is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Judy; children, Brett (Lindsay) Haugen of Shoreview, MN, Siri (Craig) Baldwin of Bellingham, WA, Jay (Lindsey) Haugen of Golden Valley, MN; grandchildren, Adelaine Haugen, Patrick Baldwin, Zoey Haugen, Freyja Baldwin; siblings, Judy (Frank) Gerlach of Austin, MN, Harris (Heidi) Haugen of Kenyon, MN, Gail (David) Trapp of West Concord, MN and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Hazel. A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Zumbro Lutheran Church, 624 3rd Ave. SW, Rochester. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester and one hour prior to the service at the church.
