Robert Carlson

A memorial service for Robert John Carlson will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes 5421 Royal Place NW., Rochester. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Pastor Don Noonan will be officiating with burial at Oakwood East Cemetery. Robert John Carlson, 93 of Rochester, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 11, 2014 at his residence. He was born August 25, 1921 in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Robert received the rank of Sargent with the Army Air Force during World War II serving in North Africa, Sicily, England and France. In 1944 he married Gwendoline E. Parker in England. They had four children and were later divorced. He married Margaret L. Nelson and they were later divorced. He worked for General Foods in S.E. Minnesota and Western Wisconsin and later as an insurance consultant for Metropolitan Insurance Company in Rochester and St. Paul, MN. Later he became a supervisor in one of a group of hardware stores in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Robert also served as President of the Rochester Chapter of the Minnesota Association of Life Underwriters. He is survived by his children, Robert Bryon Carlson of Rochester and Plainview area, Jeanette L. Carlson of Rochester, Patricia D. (John) Janecek of Aurora, IL; brother, Donald C/. (Phylis) Carlson of Yankton, S.D.; four grandchildren and special friend, Margaret L. Nelson. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Carlson; brother, Ellery and sister, Marjorie Anderson.
