Riley H. George

September 28, 1930 — June 12, 2012

ROCHESTER: Riley H. George, 81, of Rochester died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 12th surrounded by his family after battling the effects of Parkinsons disease and dementia for several years. Born in Blakely, Georgia September 28, 1930 to John and Mary George, he went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1950-52 on active duty in the Korean War. He would later marry Sybil Hartley (also of Blakely). Riley studied accounting at the University of Georgia and completed seminary training at the New Orleans Theological Seminary. He was a lifelong student of the Bible, even taking classes in Greek later in life. He was a Pastor for over 30 years before retiring and moving to Rochester, joining Autumn Ridge Church. Family has always been a priority. Although he loved to hunt, fish and golf, his greatest joy was any opportunity to play games with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Sybil; two daughters, Susan (Joe) Kane of Rochester and Carol (Kent) Wohler of Geneva, IL; four grandchildren, Tara (Andrew) Brannon of Peoria, IL, Erina (Eric) Prom of Hugo, MN, Jason (Spring) Kane of Rib Lake, WI and Hannah (Taylor) Lindeman of Roseville, MN and two great-grand daughters Adrielle and Adelynn Prom. He is also survived by one sister, Bobbie (Russell) Anslin of Albany, GA. Riley was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Chesley, 2 sisters and his great-grand daughter Abigail Hartley Brannon. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Parkinsons Foundation, Seasons Hospice, Salvation Armys Caring Partners or a charity of your choice. Visitation is on Thursday, June 14th, noon-2 pm at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes in Rochester. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with the Reverend David Schorejs officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Rochester American Legion Post #92.
