Richard William Bluhm, age 97 passed away April 10, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his family.Born March 13, 1917 in Rochester to Robert C. & Maria (Zamzow) Bluhm. Richard graduated high school in 1935 and then owned a delivery service for Knowlton's Department store for 20 years.He then went to work in the grocery business retiring as a manager for the Piggly Wiggly Grocery store.He married Loneta I. Giese on August 30, 1941 and she preceded him in death November 11, 2006.Richard was a gentle soul who had a smile that could light up a room. His family was very important, and a highlight of his life was when he recently celebrated his 97th birthday with his children and grandchildren.He was elated to share that special day with his family and friends.Rochester was his home and he was proud to be a life long resident.He loved being outdoors and enjoyed working in his yard. He was a long time member of Peace United Church of Christ.He is survived by his four children: David (Betty) Bluhm of Longmont, CO, Thomas Bluhm of Vernamiege, Switzerland, Sally (Herbert) Reichert of St. Cloud, MN and Cindy Bluhm-Ward (Kevin) of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild also survives, as does one sister, Rose Franck of Rochester.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, April 14, 2014 at Peace United Church of Christ 1503 2nd Ave NE Rochester, with Rev. Paul Bauch officiating.Entombment will follow in Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Monday at the church.Memorials are appreciated to Peace United Church of Christ or Mayo Hospice.
