Richard R. Dick Boyd, age 67, of Rochester passed away on January 25, 2013 in his home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with kidney and heart failure. Richard was born with several heart defects and had bravely and quietly battled health issues throughout his life. He was born May 11, 1945 in Chicago, IL the son of William J. & Margaret M. (Garry) Boyd. He was a Dominican Lay Brother prior to his marriage. He also became a registered nurse, being one of the first male RN's accepted to Ancker School of Nursing. He completed his master's degree in Health Care Administration, and went on to work as a Nursing Home administrator for 30+ years and then worked for the State of Minnesota prior to retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, and playing pool at the Senior Center. His faith was especially important to him. He was a member of the St. Joseph Lay Carmelite Community where he was a Third Order Lay Carmelite; he was also an active member of Pax Christi Catholic Church. Dick is survived by the love of his life and wife of 41 years, Marjorie, Margie (Bandholz) Boyd, two sons: Shawn Boyd of Los Angeles, CA; and Daniel Boyd (Samantha) of Hastings, MN, and daughter Laura Loshek (Robert) of Cottage Grove, MN. His three grandchildren, Corinna and Stephen Loshek and Isabelle Boyd, will miss their Bumpa. His siblings, Sister Maureen Boyd of Chicago, IL and James Boyd of St. Paul, MN also are survivors. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Marilyn Boyd and Thomas Boyd. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, January 28, 2013 at Pax Christi Catholic Church with burial following at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM Sunday at Ranfranz & Vine Funeral Home and one hour prior to Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to either Season's Hospice or St. Joseph Lay Carmelite Community.
