Richard Francis Dick Hawkins, 75, of Rochester passed on Saturday, January 28, at The Waters on Mayowood surrounded by his loving family. Dick was born on June 27, 1941 in Rochester, and was the first son of James Francis and Mildred Lucille (Sykes) Hawkins. Dick graduated from Rochester High School in 1959. In 1963 he founded DR, Inc., an amusement and vending company in Rochester. He loved to hunt big game around the world with his family and friends and was an active and dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge, Osman Temple, The Shriners, and Captain of The Rochester Shrine Cycle Patrol. He was a president of the Minnesota Operators of Music and Amusements, the Amusement and Music Operators Association, the Better Venders Association, founder and board members of the Valley National Eightball Association and the National Dart Association. He served on the board of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce and was an avid supporter of the Gamehaven Council of the Boy Scouts of America. On February 13, 2011 he married Margaret Rose Margie Gherasim in Hawaii. Dick is survived by his wife, Margie Hawkins of Rochester; four children, Scott Hawkins of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Michael (Sarah) Hawkins of Rochester, Renee (Jerry) Babcock of Owatonna, and a step-son, Paul (Kim) Shanks of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Sheridan, Mitchell, Michaela, Annissa, James, Adam, Abigail, and Jack; four great-grandchildren: Anthony, Sydney, Ella, and Charlotte; four siblings, David Hawkins of Austin, Judy (Arthur) Melvin of Plainview, Michael (Kit) Hawkins of Oronoco, and a half-sister, Pamela (Michael) Kanz of Rochester; and one aunt, Mary (Bill) Perry of Rochester. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and one son, James Richard Hawkins. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Thursday, February 2, and from 9 to 10 am on Friday, February 3, at Ranfranz Vine Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held from 10 to 11 am on Friday February 3, at Ranfranz Vine Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to: Shriners Hospitals for Children, the Boy Scouts of America, and the Alzheimers Association. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many dedicated, professional, and compassionate staff members at The Waters on Mayowood, Seasons Hospice, and Dr. Lust for the attentive care they provided for Dick during his illness.
