Richard U. Miller passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, December 5, 2023.
Richard Urban Miller was born August 1, 1935 in St. Paul, MN to parents, Albert and Leona Miller. The family moved to North Central, MN early in his life, and he attended elementary schools in Sandstone and Finlayson, MN. They later moved to Dodge Center, MN where he graduated in 1953. In October of 1953, Dick enlisted in the U.S Air Force. After Basic and Technical School Training, he served as a Photo Interpretation Technician with Photo Reconnaissance units at Ellsworth AFB and Westover AFB until his honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant in October of 1957.
In 1955, Dick married EiLeen Cain in West Concord, MN and the couple moved to Springfield, MA where the resided until moving back to Minnesota in 1957. Dick worked as an on-the-job trainee with Sandberg Dental Laboratory until 1964. He later worked for IBM and retired in 1993 after having been there for 29 years. He enjoyed photography, woodworking and fishing.
Dick is survived by his wife, EiLeen; two children, Paige (Phil) Jenc from Chippewa Falls, WI and David (Julie) Miller from Rochester, MN; sister, Lynora Miller from Rochester, MN; three grandchildren, Rhiannon, Hannah and Emily; and Great-Grandson, Alistor Schaub. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Dick was a 63-year member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, IBM Quarter Century Club, IBM Retiree's Club, Sampson Air Force Base Veterans Association, 28th Wing Association and the American Legion Post 333.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM, on Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Redeemer Lutheran Church (869 7th Ave SE, Rochester, MN 55904). Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Concord Cemetery at a later date.
