Richard "Dick" O. Myhre

Richard (Dick) Oswald Myhre passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Season's Hospice House in Rochester, MN. Richard was born on May 26th, 1933 to Oswald and Ruby (Wold) Myhre in Spring Grove, MN. They moved to Rochester in December 1941 when Richard was 8 years old. He attended Rochester High School and graduated in 1951. He farmed with his parents near Simpson, MN until he began working for IBM on April 1, 1957. He married Dorothy Frances (Hander) Myhre on August 23, 1958 at Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. They moved to Stewartville where they lived for 55 years, and raised three children. Richard retired from IBM on April 1, 1990 after 33 years of service. When he wasn't at his job at IBM, he could be found helping out on the family farm near Rock Dell, MN. They moved to Rochester in October 2012. Richard's love of travel began in 1972 when he and Dorothy took their first trip to Hawaii. They subsequently travelled to Hawaii three more times and to many other locations throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada. Richard also enjoyed travelling internationally to places such as Panama, Portugal, Spain, China, Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary. Richard's interests included snowmobiling, camping, cooking, canning; tomatoes and pickles, collecting antiques, and gardening. Richard had a passion for gardening. He always had a garden at their house in Stewartville, and after he retired, he planted a much larger garden every year at the family farm. He typically canned and shared most of what he grew; but in bountiful years he would sell the surplus to the local grocery store. Richard is survived by his sister, Carole Walz of Stewartville, MN; brother, Thomas (Darlene) of Stewartville, MN; children, Jean (Larry) of Oronoco, MN, Scott (Silvia) of San Diego,CA, and Mark (Sharon) of Brainerd, MN; grandchildren, Jake of San Diego, CA, Carl (Jessica) of Roseville, MN, Sara (Nick) Amys of Fargo, ND, and Kevin of Fayetteville, NC; and great grandchildren, Boaz and Naomi. Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents, Oswald and Ruby. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, December 21, 2018 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Home, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
