Rachel B. Deen

Rachel B. Deen of Rochester, MN formerly of Tampa, Florida passed away on Aug. 22, 2013 at the Seasons Hospice House. Rachel was born in South Carolina July 9, 1922.She received a BS from Winthrop College, Rock Hill, SC in 1944.In Nov. 1945 she was married to Dr. O. F. (Buddy) Deen in St Petersburg, FL. Rachel worked as a dietician in several hospitals throughout Florida, Georgia and in St Louis MO while Buddy served in the army and completed his pediatric residency.Eventually, they settled in Tampa, FL to raise their family.Rae was a dedicated volunteer, gardener and homemaker.The family shares many happy memories of Rae and Buddys fishing in Tampa Bay, in the Gulf of Mexico and on nearby Crystal River.The family will never forget watching the many multi colored sunsets over Tampa Bay from our backyard. Rae is preceded in death by her parents, a sister and by her husband, Buddy Deen. She is survived by two daughters:Pattie (Bill) Aubey of Charlestown, SC and Lyn (Dr. Steven) Smith of Rochester, MN; one son: Tom (Sherre Weatherford) Deen of Houston TX; three grandchildren: Charles (Chip) Smith, Merideth (Matt Brummond) Smith, and Sarah Smith; two sisters: Margaret B. Turner and Doris B. Wheeler. Her children and grandchildren knew her as a loving mother and grandmother.All who were fortunate to know Rae during her long life knew her as a gracious, generous, and loving lady. She was much loved and will be missed. The family would like to thank all who cared for her at the Charter House and the staff at the Seasons Hospice House who cared for her and her family in her last days. A memorial service to celebrate Raes life will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at the Charter House Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Charter House Benevolent Fund, 211 2nd St, Rochester, MN 55901.
