Phyllis Ruth Ruzek, 89, of Rochester, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2015 at Maple Manor Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. Phyllis was born May 14, 1926 in Hayfield, MN to Kinney and Alma (Morstad) Hovey. Phyllis was a 1944 graduate of Hayfield High School. On February 15, 1947, she married Joseph Ruzek.She worked as a clerk at the local grocery store for 25 years before moving to Rochester in 1981, where she then worked in the Rochester schools. Phyllis was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church and a member of the Hayfield American Legion Auxiliary. Phyllis loved to play bingo, crafts, cooking, canning and watching the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. She is survived by her children, David (Marilyn) Ruzek of Rochester, Larry (Mary) Ruzek of Brooklyn Center, MN., Jeffrey (Cozette) Ruzek of Hayfield, and Cheryl Nelson of Rochester; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and sister, Kathryn (Donald) Buske of Rochester. Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph; an infant son; brother, Phillip and by her parents, Kinney and Alma. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Bethel Lutheran Church 810 3rd Ave. SE., Rochester. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until the time of the service.The Rev. Anjanette Bandel will be officiating with interment at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 28, 2015.
