Phyllis M Hovel

ORONOCO, MINN: Phyllis Mae Hovel, 96, of Oronoco, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 7, 2011 at her residence. Phyllis was born May 9, 1915 in Hammond, MN to Samuel and Maude (Baker) Wood. She went to thelittle red school house in South Troy and Pine Island High School. Phyllis joined the Presbyterian Church of Oronoco at the age of 14 and later became a deacon. On January 23, 1937 Phyllis married Alfred Hovel in Mason City, IA and made their home in Oronoco. During World War II they moved to Santa Monica, CA and Phyllis was employed by Douglas Aircraft from 1941 to 1945. She graduated from the First Women's Riveting class. After the war, they returned to Oronoco she worked locally at Waters-Conley from 1952 until 1961. Phyllis loved animals, doing needle work, sewing clothes and canning. She was a kind and loving person that was willing to share with all people and helping others in the community. Phyllis believed a lady should always dress nice when leaving the home, enjoyed dinner with family and friends and believed maybe a little brandy after was good for you. She loved mowing the lawn which she did up until last year, and working in her garden. Phyllis was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alfred and by her parents, Samuel and Maude Wood. A graveside service will be held 11:00am Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Oronoco Cemetery with Chaplain Carol Shaffer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oronoco Cemetery Association for ground maintenance. Her last wish was to pass away at home, which was granted, with her dog, Jack by her side. Thank you to Seasons Hospice for your team support and compassionate care.
