Phyllis M. Kapenis, 88, of Rochester, MN passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Phyllis Mihos Kapenis was born in the Village of Amarinthos on the Island of Evvia, Greece on March 4, 1928 to George and Anastasia (Kajiki) Mihos. Phyllis completed High School in Greece. She apprenticed to be a tailor and seamstress. Phyllis married Tasio Kapenis on April 18, 1948 in Greece. The couple lived in Austin, MN and in 1959 the couple moved to Rochester and owned Macs Restaurant. Phyllis also worked at Julius Estes Fashions and Hannys in Rochester. Phyllis was an active member of Saints Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, the Daughters of Penelope and the Philoptochos Society. Phyllis enjoyed needlepoint, dancing and cooking. Most of all Phyllis loved spending time with her family and adored her three grandchildren. She was a loving, caring and happy soul. She had the ability to welcome people and make them feel comfortable. Phyllis is survived by her children, James (Carrie) Kappen of Omaha, NE and Georgia (Fondas) Pappas of Rochester; and three grandchildren, Nick, Chris and Pete; four sisters, Maria, Joanna, Lela all of Greece and Vicki (Jim) Psomas of Rochester. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tasio. There will be a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Saints Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church (703 West Center Street) with the Father Mark Munoz officiating. There will be a visitation from 5:00 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes with a 7:00 p.m. TRISAGION Prayer Service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to Saints Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church.
