Philip G. Doring

ROCHESTER, MINN: Philip G. Doring, 92, passed away April 18, 2012 at his residence. Philip was born March 24, 1920 in Hutchinson, MN to John C. and Mary R. (Morris) Doring. He graduated from Correll High School in Correll, MN. He was a WWII veteran, proudly serving his country with the US Army, while stationed in London he met his wife, Doris Manser. After returning home, he sent for Doris to be brought to the states on December 1, 1946 and they were married on December 2, 1946 in Chicago, IL. He went to the Radio and Television Schools Inc. in Kansas City, MO and had a first class radio and telephone operator license. They moved to Appleton, MN where they farmed.He received an award for his work in soil and water conservation from the Minneapolis Star and Tribune.He spent most of his career at IBM as a procedures analyst before retiring.Philip enjoyed camping, farming, fishing, gardening, crossword puzzles and tinkering around fixing things. He was an avid reader, with a thirst for knowledge, always wanting to learn. Philip enjoyed life but his main love was spending time with his family, watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up, and created many wonderful memories with them. Philip is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Doris; children, Philip Clyve Doring of Minneapolis, Brenda Lynn Demirci of Toronto Canada, Brent Lee (Sandy) Doring of Waubun, MN, Claire Terese (Kirk) Koblitz of Rochester; 6 grandchildren, Jillian, Lindsey, Krista, Heather, Jon, Angela and 5 great-grandchildren. Philip was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; 4 brothers, and 4 sisters. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Ranfranz and Vine Funeral Homes, 5421 Royal Place NW, Rochester, MN 55901 with Rev. Norman Wahl officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00pm until time of service at the funeral home.
