Paul W. Olander Rochester, MN Paul W. Olander, 81, died from a brain tumor on April 28, 2013 at Season's Hospice in Rochester.He was born April 29, 1931 to Caroline & Bruce Olander in Morris, MN.After graduating from Morris High School, he attended St. Olaf College and graduated from the University of MN School of Business Administration in 1953.His entire career was spent in the banking business, first as a bank examiner with the FDIC and then as a manager of the Fargo, ND office of the SBA.He served banks in Grand Forks, ND and Great Falls, MT as a vice president before moving back to Grand Forks to become president of the Red River National Bank.In 1975, he and his family moved to Rochester where he was president of First Bank until leaving the bank in 1982 to establish his own bank consulting business which he and his wife, Beverly, operated until he retired in 2000. Paul was very active in the Rochester Community.He served on the Library Board and the Park and Recreation Board.He was a member and president of the Chamber of Commerce and the Rochester Methodist Hospital Board.Paul also served on the boards of the Rochester Area Foundation, Hiawatha Homes, LIFE, SCORE and many other local organizations in which he took a leadership role. Paul was a member of Rotary for nearly 50 years.He was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church. Paul had many interests which he pursued with a great deal of enthusiasm.He loved gardening, tennis, backpacking in Montana, skiing, sailing and riding his horse, Strut. Survivors include his wife of almost 55 years, Beverly, his son Britt (Laura) of Deerfield, IL, his daughter Andrea Baloga (David) of Lawrence, KS, his grandchildren, Kale, Lane and Tate Olander and Taylor, Maddie, and Caroline Baloga, his sister, Ruth Stewart of Jacksonville, FL, sisters in law, Joyce Eckhoff and Avis Kunkel, brothers in law Dale Smith (Jan) and David Smith (Alicia) and many other relatives and friends.His parents and an infant grandson, Gage Olander, preceded him in death. A celebration of life service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 3 PM Friday May 17, 2013 with visitation one hour prior to the services. The family suggests that memorials be given to the Rochester Area Foundation or the First Presbyterian Church, Rochester, MN.
