Paul V. Benjamin

Paul Verne Benjamin, age 84, of Rochester passed away February 11, 2015 at Charter House.Born December 27, 1930 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Leo Verne and Edna (Nass) Benjamin.Paul served in the United States Army at the end of the Korean War.He married Joan Frohn on December 23, 1959 in Osceola, Iowa and she survives.Paul was a music and band teacher in various schools throughout his thirty year career, which included fifteen years in Iowa and fifteen years in Minnesota retiring from Rochester Public Schools.He also taught private lessons for many years.He played in various musical groups including the Rochester Symphony.Paul was an avid sports enthusiast, and also very involved with his church, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for many years.After his retirement he remained active as a volunteer throughout the community.Surviving him are his wife, Joan Benjamin of Rochester, 2 daughters and their spouses, Diane Benjamin (Naomi Siegal) of Minneapolis, and Susan Benjamin (Audra Lind) of Brainerd, and one very special granddaughter Anna.He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorial services will be held 10 AM Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 1212 12th Ave NW Rochester, MN. Memorials in his memory are appreciated to Channel One Food Bank, or Gloria Dei Lutheran Choir.
