Patrick Dane Medina, 59, of Rochester, MN passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 at home in the loving arms of his family, after a very briefbattle with cancer. Patrick was born on November 17, 1957 to Richard and Betty Medina in Oklahoma City, OK. Patrick obtained B.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of Oklahoma. On March 8, 1980 Patrick married Kay Lynn Earley.The couple lived in the Oklahoma City area until they moved to Chicago in 2000, working at the University of Chicago. In 2006, Patrick began working at Mayo Clinic in the Office of Sponsored Projects Administration. In 2014, he moved to the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he became the Associate Director of Pre-Award Services in the office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Patrick enjoyed home brewing, traveling, music and dancing. However, above all, Patrick loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his dog Olive, and cherished relationships with close friends. He touched many people in positive ways and was never shy about sharing his thoughts and opinions to help others achieve the best they could be. Many of his colleagues felt they were better for having known him. Patrick is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Kay; two daughters, Katie Whitson and husband Carl of Moore, OK and Sarah Giese and husband Jake of Rochester, MN; three grandchildren, Patrick age 16, Lillian age 9, and Aria age 3; his parents, Richard and Betty Medina of Oklahoma City, OK; one brother, Paul Medina, his wife Grace, daughter Emily, and great-niece Zoe of Oklahoma City, OK, and cousins Debra Scott, Stephanie Scott, and Sheila Hankins, of Oklahoma City.
